Does Indonesia Maid Really Worth RM800.00 A Month?

Minimum RM800 a month! Bernama has reported on September 5th that Indonesian media yesterday said that “the country would push for a minimum salary of RM800 a month for its maids serving in Malaysia at the fourth meeting of the committee overseeing the intakes of Indonesian maids in Jakarta on Saturday”. So RM800 Malaysian Ringgit converted to Indonesian Rupiah equals to IDR2,297,230.53 ( with universal curreny exchange rate at 1 MYR = 2,871.54 IDR. Pheew, what a quite amount of money and for sure 2.2 million Rupiah means a lot in Indonesia.
Not to against the suggestion from the Indonesian Government but a simple reasoning shows that here in Malaysia the minimum RM800 salary demanded was actually higher than local government servant with PMR/SRP level of education. If the proposal agreed then one can says that even an indonesia maid can get better salary than local civil servant who has PMR/SRP qualification. A browse into Public Service Commision portal shows that Hospital Attendant (grade U3) is paid RM709 a month as a starting salary, while Operator Loji, Pemandu Kenderaan Bermotor and Pemandu/operator jentera Pemunggah (Grade R3) are also paid lower at RM701.42 permonth. And also Pengawas Pemulihan and Penyelamat (Grade N1) who also being paid at RM649.15 a month.
and what should be the logical justifications to enable the Indonesian maid earns RM800 a month while many locals themselves haven’t get that opportunity to earn that much? Do the maids that will be provided have certain educational background which equals to our SRP/PMR standard? Or do they have proper training and courses recoqnized by both countries for being a domestic servant?
I remembered my brother’s filipino maid who was paid RM700 a month, but her service was very good and she had been professionally trained in completed house cores courses in her country before came to serve in Malaysia, and her employer really satisfied with her job’s performance.
Well that was just a proposal and let us wait and see how this thing progresess….

mm, sbb dah bagi kemudahan tempat tinggal, makan minum dsb.. tak seharusnya gaji minimum dinaikkan sebanyak itu.. maklumlah purata pendapatan sebilangan rakyat tempatan pun masih di tahap rendah walaupun saban hari bekerja keras.. mungkin soal itu yang wajar dikaji terlebih dahulu oleh kerajaan.. : )

bagi saya isu ni ulah orng tak bertanggung jwb je(kutuk bangsa sendiri hehe..)
mereka tak pernah minta gaji minima cuma cari gaji lebih dari pada kerja kat kampong sendiri. selama ini gaji 450-550 mereka tak komplen pun walau tak semua tapi boleh saya katakan 80% pembantu rumah menerima apa yang majikan bagi. tapi kalau isu ni betul saya cadangkan tuan/puan yg ada pembantu suruh mereka balik, pekerja binaan yang gaji 40/day pun senyap.ni pula pembantu mengada

Salam,
Memang tak berbaloi sebenarnya.Keje tak setara mana tapi gaji nak sama taraf ngan clerk.

Well, empoyer are paying around RM450/= for month for indonesian maid, how about the money we fork out for initial payment, food, accommodation, water and electricity?? All that must be taken into consideration. Everage wage earn by indonesian maid basis on 2 yrs contract is abt RM1085=.(Base on RM7000 first payment, RM300 monthly rental, RM 100/= monthly utility). Even a rubber tappr in malaysia hardly earn that amount. I think they are overpaid for malaysian living standard.

That is the problem with the claim, they just claim for the sake of claiming without knowing exactly what they are claiming about..didn’t know how they come to the conclusion of RM800.00, who they are referring while discussing about the cost of living in Malaysia…
with your calculation then they are actually paid better than local workforce long time ago….

can pay them monthly RM1085/= per month but have to deduct rental, food, etc.
